Asking God For Help: Lesson
When you answered the questions from the Day 1 video, you discovered your “Why.” If you haven’t answered it yet, take time to answer it now. It is the foundation you will need to stay motivated and committed to making lasting changes and it is the main reason you started this journey to a healthier you in the first place.
Now that you have your “why”, let’s move on…
There are three steps that I call the ABCs of fitness. In this session, we will discuss the “A” which stands for ASK. Ask God for help. God wants you to come to Him for what you need. If you think you can succeed at making healthy lifestyle changes that will last by relying on your own power, you won’t make it. This quote from my Bible commentary explains it well: “The secret to victory is first to admit the futility of unaided human effort and then to trust God to save. His power works best through those who recognize their limitations. It is those who think they can do it on their own that are in the greatest danger.”
Come with an open heart and ask God for help achieving your goal to get healthy. He wants that for you too and He wants to partner with you. If you pray every day already, that is great! If you don’t, why not start now? A few things to consider as you spend time with God:
- Where and when should I pray? Do what works for you in a quiet and comfortable place.
- How long should I pray? Start with five minutes a day. You may end up praying longer.
- What should I say? Say what is on your heart. This is just a conversation between you and God. Make your request and then be still and listen.
God is all-powerful, and you can trust Him and lean on Him to lead you through the highs and lows of life and, specifically, this fitness plan. If you ask and acknowledge Him, He will direct your path every step of the way. Ask Him to help you make healthy lifestyle changes a permanent part of your life. Ask for help to change your unhealthy cravings and desire to eat sugar. Ask Him to help you do the things that you find difficult. Ask for energy throughout each day. Thank Him for sticking with you and giving you the help that you will need to be successful!
JAMES 1:5
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. 6But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
JOHN 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
COLOSSIANS 1:29
To this end, I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.
PHILIPPIANS 4:13
I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
JOHN 10:10
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
1 Peter 5:7
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
