Day 15 Message: Why “Your Why” Matters
I’ve talked a lot over the years about how important it is to know your why. This is especially important when developing new habits. People often share that finding a big enough reason to make a change is what helps them stick with it even on the days when motivation just… disappears.
There’s a funny thing about habits: they don’t stick just because we want them to. They stick when our why is bigger than our daily excuses. Our why is our anchor.
You could decide to drink more water because it’s healthy… but you’re way more likely to actually do it if your why includes having more energy to play with your grandkids or feeling less foggy in the afternoon. Your why gives purpose to the small choices you make again and again, even when you don’t feel like it.
When you know your why, your habits become less about “should” and more about “this matters to me.” That’s the real shift. It’s not about forcing motivation every day. It’s about having a reason so good that even the unmotivated days feel worth showing up for.
For some of us, our why might be about health. For others, it might be about being present with family, honoring God with how we care for our bodies, or finally experiencing freedom from shame and regret. Whatever it is, your why doesn’t have to be trendy or extreme; it just has to be meaningful to you.
Here’s a little challenge for today: take a few minutes and write down your why. Not the surface reason, like “lose weight.” Go deeper. What difference would this habit make in your daily life? How would it change your relationships, your energy, your joy? What does this habit help you show up for?
Keep going. Your why matters more than you know.
