Day 19 Message: Make the Right Choice the Easy Choice
One of the simplest ways to build better habits is to make the healthy choice the easy choice. Often, we think success comes only from having more willpower, but in reality, our environment plays a huge role in the decisions we make every day. I touched on this on day 6, but I want to dig a bit deeper today.
Think about it this way: if a bowl of fresh fruit is sitting on the counter and cookies are tucked away in a cabinet, which one are you more likely to grab? Most of us reach for what’s right in front of us. The same idea applies to exercise, sleep, hydration, and so many other habits we want to build.
Instead of relying on motivation alone, try setting up your surroundings to support the choices you want to make. Lay out your workout clothes the night before. Keep a water bottle nearby during the day. Prep healthy snacks so they’re ready when you need them. These small adjustments remove friction and make it easier to follow through.
The truth is, we’re all busy, and we all get tired. On those days, the habits that stick are usually the ones that are easiest to start.
So today, take a few minutes to look at your environment and ask yourself: What small change could make my next healthy choice easier? You might be surprised how much difference one small change can make.
And remember, building better habits isn’t about being perfect. It’s about creating a life where the things that help you feel your best are the things that naturally fit into your day.
