Day 2 Message: Rewire Your Routine
Our brains like what’s familiar, which is probably why starting something new, even something good, can feel harder than you expect. New habits don’t happen overnight. They take time, intention, and a lot of grace. I find a lot of comfort in the truth that we’re never too old to learn something new. No matter our age, every time we make a small, healthy choice, our brains begin forming new pathways that make that choice a little easier the next time. Turns out, “old dogs” really can learn new tricks!
I love this reminder from Craig Groeschel: “Successful people do consistently what other people do occasionally.” It’s a reminder that commitment carries us a lot further than intentions ever will. It’s about taking the next right step and continuing to return to it.
You don’t have to get it right every day. I surely don’t. Just keep recommitting to the things you are working on. Some days you’ll feel motivated, and other days you’ll simply do your best, and that is enough. What’s important is that you stay with it, because over time those “I should do this” moments begin to turn into “I did it!! ” Along the way, you’re not just taking care of yourself. You’re gently retraining your brain.
