Morning Routine and Food Labels

When you wake up in the morning, how do you start your day? Do you eat a healthy breakfast, or do you grab something quick and run out the door? Do you take time to be still and talk with God, or are you rushed, thinking you'll catch up with Him before bed, only to fall asleep too soon?

It is important to be thoughtful about your morning routine. Having the right routine can make the difference between a successful and rewarding day and a frustrating, defeat-filled one. To kick your sugar habit, your morning must include healthy habits and time with God.

To start your day off right, I recommend beginning by drinking 8 ounces of water. After that, enjoy your cup of coffee (but skip the sweeteners) and a well-balanced breakfast like some fruit, a nutritious smoothie, or an egg with toast and avocado. There are several great recipes on our website for healthy coffee creamers and quick breakfast ideas. (website link)

Before you move on, make sure to do the most important thing: fill your morning with God. Spending time with Him by praying and reading your Bible will help you put your thoughts in perspective, set your day off with purpose, and allow your mind to be renewed with peace, hope, and joy. This is the time to ask God for His help to keep you on track with your quest to stop your sugar cravings.

He will be available at a moment’s notice to help you make healthy decisions. Remember Psalm 46:10, "Be still, and know that I am God." Taking time to be still and connect with God each morning can transform your entire day. Lean on Him to help you and give you the strength and direction you need throughout your day.

I am not suggesting you cut sugar completely out of your diet. In today’s video, however, I do recommend eating no more than 24 grams of added sugar each day. Watch the video, and I will show you how to read food labels to determine how many sugars are in the food you’re eating. You might be surprised to discover not only how much added sugar but also how many chemicals you are consuming each day.

Prayer

Lord, help me remember that nothing is going to happen today that You and I together cannot handle together.  I need your help throughout the day to guide me.  Amen

Challenge

  1. Drink 8 oz of water before your coffee (with no sugar or artificial sweeteners) and eat a healthy breakfast

  2. Spend time with God and in His Word.

  3. Read your food labels.  Pay attention to “added sugars” and the ingredients list.  If you don’t know what the word is…don’t eat it. Go through your kitchen and pantry and remove all those added sugars.

PSALMS 107:20

He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave.
