The Importance of Strengthening
In Day 1 I talked about how miraculous the spine is, but your back is only as good as the sum of its parts and if any one area in your body isn’t pulling its weight, your whole back can be thrown off, and it can lead to back pain.
This is especially true when it comes to core muscles, which include the muscles in your lower back, obliques, and abdomen. These muscles play a foundational role in keeping your spine strong and healthy. Acting as a natural corset, they support the spine, providing stability, proper posture, and the ability to move freely.
The human body functions best when it’s balanced and one weak muscle in your core can set your entire back off balance. Weak muscles can place undue stress on certain parts of the back which leads to, you guessed it… back pain. By strengthening the muscles in your core, you provide proper support to your back which allows it to function better as a whole. It is key to ensure that all of your core muscles are equally strong to provide support from every angle.
Building good core muscles doesn’t require much time or equipment: If you spend just 5-10 minutes a day isolating and strengthening your core muscles, you’ll reap the rewards in no time!
