Why Loving Yourself Is So Important - Written Message
Reflection
Dr. Gabrielle Lyons once said, “A person will only be as healthy as they feel worthy of.”
Loving yourself is the foundation of true, lasting health. When you value yourself, you are more likely to make choices that nurture your body, mind, and spirit. When you do not love yourself, you may fall into unhealthy extremes, either neglecting your well-being or obsessing over changing your body through habits like yo-yo dieting or overtraining. True health begins when you care for yourself from a place of love, not criticism; choosing exercise, healthy eating, balance, and rest because you believe your life is worth tending to.
As one woman put it: “I used to exercise because I hated my body, now I exercise because I love my body.” -April
I want to make one thing clear: Loving yourself the right way should lead you to love others better. It is about caring for your health so you can be your best self for those around you and live the full life God has planned for you. True self-love does not give you permission to focus only on yourself or become prideful. Instead, it empowers you to serve others with compassion and humility.
God already loves you deeply and unconditionally. His love is not based on what you do or how you look; it is constant and unchanging. Ephesians 2:10 tells us we are God’s masterpiece. Say it out loud for a moment: “I am God’s masterpiece!” and take time to reflect on that truth. He created you with intention, purpose, and infinite care. Every part of you - your strengths, your weaknesses, your personality, and your story - was woven together by His loving hands. When you understand that you are a masterpiece, you begin to see yourself through His eyes, not through self-doubt or comparison.
